Sharon (Clendenning) Bove is from Clarks Summit, PA. She graduated from Abington Heights in 1988 and went on to attend Penn State Main Campus in the Spring of 1989. During her stay there, she was a back-up singer for two bands, Boxing Oscars and King Solomon's Marbles. Sharon became reacquainted with family-friend J.R. Mangan when both bands called on his services for bookings and recordings. Sharon has always been a singer, performing in plays and choirs since she was a little girl. After graduating from Penn State in HDFS (Human Development and Family Studies), she decided to try singing full-time. Sharon joined J.R. to become "J.R. and Sharon" in the Summer of 1994 and has been singing with J.R. ever since. "J.R. & Sharon" is by far State College s most loved acoustic duo. Their act has been a favorite among audiences all over Pennsylvania and surrounding areas such as New Jersey, Ohio, Maryland and Washington D.C. Their seamless harmonies and original style have made them a tough team to duplicate. The two are notorious for their wide base of devoted fans. Sharon s mesmerizing vocals and J.R. s immediate rapport with the crowd keep audiences coming back for more.
In addition to originals, J.R. and Sharon perform a diverse range of cover songs from 60's, 70's and 80's Classic Rock to 90's Rock and Country. Artists covered include Shawn Colvin, Joni Mitchell, Tom Petty, James Taylor, Janis Joplin, Faith Hill, Dixie Chicks, Bare Naked Ladies, The Grateful Dead, Jimmy Buffet, and many more. J.R. s original songs would probably qualify as "Adult Alternative" with an easy Rock feel.
The "J.R. and Sharon Band" came into existence in the Spring of 1996 when J.R. and Sharon added drum player Dana Hawk, Bass player Sean Kitchen and Electric Guitar player Ed Kenepp. Dana, Sean and Ed helped create an entirely new sound for J.R. and Sharon and their popularity grew...and continues to grow today.
